3. VALERIE MILLER: ACTING Bio / Resume

 

Valerie Miller, award-winning actress and soprano, began her performance career at age four and has been performing ever since. She is equally sure-footed in the worlds of film, the dramatic stage, recording, the opera, musical theater, and television. 

 

THEATER: Following extensive education and training Valerie began in the New York theater in productions of “The Fantastiks,” “The Apple Tree,” “What’s A Nice Country Doing In A State Like This?,” and “Berlin To Broadway With Kurt Weill: A Musical Voyage.”

 

MUSICAL THEATER: Her musical theater appearances have included starring roles in “Evita,” “The Sound of Music,” and “The Music Man,” for which she won 3 Best Actress Awards from San Francisco’s Woodminster Amphitheater. In San Francisco she has appeared in "The Man Of La Mancha" and has also starred in productions of “Camelot,” “The Most Happy Fella,” and “West Side Story,” among others.

 

FILM: Her film work has included appearances in Tri Vision’s “A Doll in The Dark,” AFI’s “Paradise Is Closing Down,” and contribution of an operatic aria to the soundtrack of the Tom Cruise film, “All The Right Moves.” She also played a recurring role in NBC’s “Santa Barbara.”

 

OPERA: Valerie has performed the roles of Violetta in “La Traviata,” Fiodiligi in “Cosi Fan Tutte,” the Mother in “Amahl And The Night Visitors,” Elizabetta in "Don Carlo," and many others. 

 

VOCALIST: As a soloist she has performed with the San Francisco Symphony, Bellflower Symphony, Golden West Opera, Los Angeles Music Theater Opera, Desert Opera, and Opera Pacific. 

 

TRAINING (ACTING / VOICE): Valerie studied acting with the legendary MS. STELLA ADLER, and by her special invitation, with William Chow of the Peking Opera. She studied voice and drama was graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy with honors and then attended the Manhattan School of Music, both on full scholarship, after which she coached with Beaumont Glass at the Zurich Opera, in Switzerland. She is also a scholarship recipient from the Los Angeles Fine Arts Council.

 

RECORDINGS: Include her Classical-Crossover CD, “Valerie” (2014), guest lead vocalist on the CD “Love Journeys,” (her single "Angels" reached #6 on New Age Voice Magazine's New Age Vocals chart, 2001), and an aria for the Tom Cruise film “All The Right Moves.”

 

RANGE: The range of her performances has included work as soloist with the San Francisco Symphony Pops Series concert “Cole Porter On Broadway,” the role of Elizabetta in “Don Carlo,” with Amato Opera, the role of Louisa in “The Fantastiks,” and the starring role in the film “The Merry Go Round Isn’t Forever.” Consistent throughout this diversity of styles is a unifying element: Valerie’s philosophy of communication through performance and truth and realism in acting.
